sod washer 017On April 16 we processed our first load of bentgrass sod through our sod washer. The sod was greens height 007 bentgrass harvested at our farm near Delmar, MD. The washed sod can be used on USGA spec greens without worrying that native soil in the sod will contaminate the sand.

Dormant Sprig Planting

dormant sprig plantingOakwood Sod Farm installed dormant sprigs of Latitude 36 bermudagrass at a Pop Warner football field on December 19, 2013. This is a new concept that contractors in the mid-atlantic region have used with some success. We are testing various install dates to see what produces the best results. Dormant sprigging has a number of benefits. Working in the off season allows work to be done without interfering with sport schedules or regular play on a golf course. Sprigs planted in the winter begin their first growth in the early spring, and should not need irrigation. This will allow bermudagrass planting on non irrigated sites.
